Positive Trait:

★ LOYAL. Team means something to Maria. When one of your agents is in danger you don't leave them, you help them and sometimes there are consequences. For people that Maria trusts, people that Maria has built bonds with and people that Maria believes are right she will go far for them, defying orders that she had previously believed and shaking up the world based on that trust. After Maria discovered that SHIELD had been corrupted, despite believing in what SHIELD stood for she sided with Steve against Nick in the realisation that it needed to be taken down. Maria is loyal to SHIELD, she works for and fights for them and their ideals, but beyond that she is loyal to those who have proven themselves: she trusts Steve's judgement, allowing her to make the difficult calls. Because Maria keeps herself distant from others there are few that she is truly close to. It makes her fight harder when they are in trouble, pause when her actions could put them in danger and hurt when they are hurt. After Coulson was brought back to life she worried about him, both for his professional judgements and as a friend because she knew how dangerous the procedure had been. With Fury, she protects his secrets even to others that she is friends with. If Maria believes strongly in something or someone she will defend it, even with her life.

Negative Trait:

★ SECRETIVE. Maria is a woman of more secrets than words. Maria shares very little about herself except with the people closest to her, and as a part of the intelligence community, it isn't only common but also very smart. It isn't only her secrets that Maria keeps tightly hidden but everything necessary. Coulson retorted to Maria after she tried to prep him for a meeting that despite SHIELD falling she was still trying to protect their secrets, an instinct in Maria that will never die -- the secrets SHIELD held are too dangerous to be released into the world, at least in the opinion of the people who held them. Some of Maria's secretive nature comes from her SHIELD training, some of it from her less-than-pleasant background, but as a skilled strategist she is always thinking about the information she holds and what she will ever choose to tell anyone -- personally or professionally. Information doesn't die as easily as people do.

Negative Trait:

★ COLD. Maria often seems cold in conversation, which she would tie to her professional style and a push to get the job done, though it also reflects her preference to keep herself distant from others. There are many things that Maria has experienced that she doesn't want to discuss, and stopping people from getting close prevents those conversations. She's a tough boss but not without reason, wanting everyone to be at their best and to succeed. Maria's coldness can also make her seem very dismissive, particularly when a person irritates her, with Maria quickly brushing them off when she feels she's done with them or a conversation. She tends to deliver threats with a lighter tone, her detachment shown over anger (often more dangerous) and when called for will joke about a situation to frustrate another. Maria's detached style means that if someone tries to offend her with a joke or bait her she's able to keep a level head, either returning a retort or letting it wash over her regardless of how rude it may be. "Cold" is her armour, something that Maria tries to use to her advantage, to keep herself distant and to show no weaknesses. And often it works as intimidation too.

Negative Trait:

★ RIGID. Maria believes herself to be practical, to have her eyes open to what the world is and to be realistic about what needs to happen. Whilst Maria is diplomatic and decisive she also sees the world through lenses tinted by experience, viewing many things that are "different" as a threat. Whilst Maria would claim to view people's actions over their potential she has worked on SHIELD operations that would state the opposite: being a part of Project Insight, knowing of and approving operations related to collecting powered individuals for study and developing weapons based upon alien threat. It's seen by her as practical, to be able to fight back against inhuman threats and to protect the world that she lives in, but her quick judgements also mean that she doesn't see the entire story: she assumes someone's potential based on what they could be capable of rather than allowing them to do better because to Maria in war you don't have that second to be wrong. You're a threat unless you prove otherwise, though even then she may still have some caution.

Powers and Abilities:

★ TACTICIAN. a trained spy, Maria is skilled in infiltration and espionage, though her missions are more combat-oriented than simply sneaking in undetected. Maria is a competent leader, able to lead a unit in tactical decisions (military and shield ops) and effectively analyse a situation to know how to plan her next moves and predict how a situation will unfold to stay on top of it. Her skill enabled her to be quickly promoted in SHIELD's ranks to Deputy Director despite her young age.
★ COMBAT. both military training and SHIELD's training have made Maria proficient in both hand-to-hand combat and in the use of weapons, both improvised and standard weapons. Her tactical knowledge allows her to assess a fight and her skill and strength allow her to fight against enemies larger than her in size and number. Though she can be bested she is a skilled fighter.
★ MARKSMANSHIP. Maria has shown herself to be skilled with multiple types of weapons, able to hit her mark whether it is a stationary or a moving target, with both a handgun and a missile launcher.
